York Performance Hall and Galleries
Fine Arts Performance at Anderson University
York Performance Hall is an addition of 24,000 square feet connected to the Krannert Fine Arts Center bringing together classrooms, rehearsal rooms, and the new performance venue. Its opening gala was on September 23, 2012. The hall is used for recitals and performances by Anderson University students as well as visiting artists. The main floor accommodates approximately 250 seats, while the balcony space supports 70 seats. The project features orchestra space for 45 musicians and a choir loft for 75 voices. Along with the performance space, the addition also houses several gallery spaces. One such space permanently houses the Warner Sallman art collection, which includes Head of Christ, Christ at Heart's Door, Christ in Gethsemane, and The Lord is My Shepherd.
York Performance Hall is named in honor of Dr.s James and Elizabeth Harp York, who have given their time and resources to make a difference in people’s lives. Early retirement allowed the couple to work in mission hospitals throughout Africa, where James used his skills as an orthopedic surgeon. The Yorks have also provided resources for the York Seminary Village and the Elizabeth York Rare Books and Special Collections in the Nicholson Library.
